February 21, 2015 – No Excuse (Exodus 4)

Excuses, we have all said them. We usually give an excuse to escape from responsibility. DC Talk, a Christian band had a song in which were the words, “I am the king of excuses, I have one for every selfish thing I do.” Moses had a handful of excuses in Exodus 4. God appeared to Moses in a burning bush to reveal His plan. God called Moses to lead His people, Israel, out of slavery in Egypt. Moses had a past. He grew up in Pharaoh’s home, but he killed an Egyptian for hurting an Israelite. So now Pharaoh was in search for Moses. No wonder Moses found some excuses. Could you imagine facing Pharaoh again? Moses must have thought, “If I do this Pharaoh will surely kill me.” To answer a call like this would require complete faith and trust in God. God showed Moses that He was powerful enough to use Moses’ inadequacies for His glory. Often when God calls us, we form some of the same excuses. Stop making excuses and trust that God is in control. If God is calling you, step out and trust in His plan.
