March 10, 2015 – The Emmaus Encounter (Luke 24)

Have you ever met someone famous? In the few times that I have traveled by airplane I have seen a few movie and music stars. They are often hard to spot. They try to disguise their appearance so others cannot recognize them. Occasionally, someone will recognize the star. When they recognize the star and muster the never to meet them, then they have to make known of the occurrence. In Luke 24, two men were walking to a village called Emmaus. Jesus appeared to them on the road; however, they were not able to recognize Him. They talked with Jesus about what had happened to the Son of God. They were sad over the death of Jesus. Jesus then expounded on the Scriptures and declared to them the truth of the gospel. They soon found out that it was Jesus who had been talking to them. Later the two men explained to the disciples that when they had talked with Jesus that their hearts burned within them. If you are a follower of Christ, you have had an Emmaus encounter. You have felt the Holy Spirit speak to you. He has convicted you of yours sins and shown you the need for Jesus in your life. Take time today to thank God for such an encounter that has led to faith in Him. Today let us proclaim and rejoice in the most famous person of all, our King and Savior.
